Step bit or uni bit.  These are great for building cams.  You can get them cheap from Harbor Freight.  We are usually just drilling plastic.  I use them for my pipe threw.  If not aligned just right you can move the hole.

I use mine all the time and a 1" hole saw in the drill for the PIR hole.

I like the hole saw better than the forstner bit.

Now I remember why I bought the step drill four years ago and never used it! I thought I was just having trouble with dull forstner bits. Thanks for posting this as it's all coming back now.
