Got a call today from the hospital that my Dad was in a car accident. He has fractured left side 3,4,5,6,7,9,10 ribs, left lung collapsed 40% plus fractured left medial scapula and same with left pubic rami. They put a drain tube or whatever into the lung to re-inflate it and afterwards x-ray showed it worked.
Overall he doesn't complain about pain which I told the doctors was surprising as he's a wuss and complains about everything.
Personally he shouldn't be alive. Saw the car and this is just a pic. from the rear but the front is basically gone with drivers fender and door caved in. Had to use jaws of life to get him out.

Having broken six ribs 3 1/2 years ago, morphine is your friend at a time like that. The air bag probably saved him from even worse injuries, but he'll be hurting for a while. Thoughts are with you folks.

Was just in there a few hours ago. Apparently the left lung has deflated a bit so chest tube is staying in. Right lung now has deflsted a touch and new x-ray shows a very small hole but nothing they are concerned about. New x-ray also showed the sternum had red (?) on it and they looked closer and found a small fracture in it. Main concern though is he could only sip water and immediately spit it back out, with blood in it. So nothing to eat or drink so lungs won't get it. He sounds like a frog and they are having ears, nose and throat doctors take a look at him to see if possible damage was done there or if possibly just need to enlarge the trachia (?), he had this done back around 2000.
So not out of the woods by any means.

From the looks of the car he is indeed very lucky to have survived the crash. I hope he pulls through alright and has a speedy recovery.

Just a quick update. With everything going on Dad and all of us kids decided to go for comfort care, Dads choosing. He passed away a bit over an hour ago. He's with Mom now so he's happy![smile]

Is a good time, sadness lasts only a moment compared to the eternal life he has now.
