Well, here goes.  Tried first hack of a P32 tonight.  Turn on cam and all I can get is the old "Turn Power off and back on again' message.  What to do now?  What does this mean?

Not sure but did you disable the lens motor and doors? Make sure the SA is aligned correct (so traces are aligned)? Wires pinched anywhere? Did you reattach the ribbon when putting the halves back together?

No but my son disabled the other P32.  I should made him watch the whole video first instead of doing it as we watched.  So now I have 2 projects for Camfest!

Just plug the little white plug back in then turn on the camera. Now with camera on open battery door and remove the batteries now you can unplug the little white plug again. also make sure you have all the ribbon cables inserted

Got it.  I'VE HACKED A CAMERA!!  Thanks Ken.  I am guessing that was a step for disabling the shutter like Jon was talking about?  Now, about that little white plug. Just for arguments sake, let's say my son was working on his P32 and pulled the whole thing apart and the female end of that plug is somewhere in the dining room.  Anything that can get around this?

These pics. are for a P52 hack but are the same basically for the P32 and should explain about the white plug.
Two ways, when you first power it on and remove the batteries then yes the lens doors are open so the motor is disabled. Can either just unsolder the red and black wires from the motor or just remove the motor and plug all together. Either way it is a good idea to put a dab of super glue where shown to keep the gear from ever moving.

Like Ken had said about plugging the white plug in then starting over (power on and then remove batteries) the removing the entire motor part would then let you just manually rotate the lens doors open, that's why the super glue part is important.

Thank you Jon!  So I should remove the motor on each hack?  (surprisingly with my ability I am planning more[biggrin])

Thanks Tom. Sometimes I guess I try to give more info. then needed. Was just meaning it as an alternate way but guess it now confuses the issue. First 2 P32's did for a guy that's all I did was just unplug it, never even unsoldered the wires.

Went to pull it apart last night to glue the gears.  Then thought, if it's working now, why mess with it?  If it becomes an issue I will take care of it then.
So we got my son's glued and we'll be 'hacking' on it next weekend.  It will be his first time soldering.  Thanks for all the help!

You can just push the lens door open.  no need for a battery in the camera.  I do this when I do the external battery holders.  If the wire bug me I may just cut them off.
