Okay I ordered a Folger Kossel 3D printer today.  Auto leveling bed.  Aluminum hotbed.  All metal J head extruder.  Open sourse.  I have struggled with this for over a year because there is so many things that can be made for homebrews with a 3d printer.  If I only need 5 items I can print them out instead of having to get a large quantity made to keep the cost down.  It is going to be tough teaching a old dog new tricks.  I have to learn 3d software to do what I need to build.  There is not going to be anything already designed for us.  This is a tough purchase for me right now but I feel strong enough that I might be able to pay for this thing with parts made.  It would be nice to just print a fresnel holder for a build.  How about a board bracket that fits into the fresnel for perfect alignment.  Just glue it where you want.  Make custom snorkels. How about the lens extension where the camera sits in the shelf bracket for perfect camera alignment all the time.  Man this gets my head spinning for the possibility.  I have not heard of anyone using one of these for homebrew cam building.  Is there anyone out there.

I look forward to seeing your progress.  I've toyed with the idea of buying one as well but can't justify it yet.  I have experience with
wide format printers and working on them, but like you said, learning 3D software would be a big hurdle.  I can see hours of design time going in to each little part.  I'm pretty sure I read about someone else using a 3D printer for cam builiding parts but now that you ask I can't remember where.

Rick Gray has one and uses it to make parts for his own personal builds but nothing for mass production. Should be interesting to see what you come up with Charles and good luck with it.

Once you have a file you can just print it out.  I hope to be able to make some of these available to buy.

I will not have it for the workshop.  It is in a kit and will take a few days to put together and test.  Nothing that I don`t do regularly.

When you get a handle on operating it, you can print me up some new disk for my lower back. How hard can it be?
I'm guessin the installation might be tough....

I would have to peal her off of you when you come down.  It would be like toilet paper stuck somewhere.  EEWW.[eek][eek][eek] [image]
