I was checking cams and I just changed the chip and batteries in one cam.  I walked about 20 yards and realized I forgot my walking stick.  So I went back for it.  Picked it up and started to walk back to where I was.  I saw a nice trail and was observing it.  I took a turn left and that darn rattle snake was on the move rattling all the way.  I had to have walked past the thing twice.  Darn thing took me by surprise because I walked right through there.  I hate rattle snakes.

I don't like them either.  I wear a pair of snake boots when out wandering through the woods this time of year.  I usually leave them alone unless they are in the camp yard.   We saw one last week strechted across the road that was pushing 4 foot

Ditto to both of you.
Really only place that scares me is down state in the rocks.
Charles, would have been nice seeing you move that fast!
John, the time I set mine with you you had on sandles! Stupid is as stupid does thought I.

I didn`t move at all but I had my daughter boyfriend with me and I yelled snake so he wouldn`t get to close to it.  He said are you going to catch it.  Heck no that thing was already moving through the laurel.  I did see a lot of animals Yesterday.  I saw that snake, cow elk, turkey, rabbit, grouse and deer.  Not a bad day out and about.  The only thing was I took 2 ticks off of me after the trip.

Ya Jon but the path was wide enough to ride a 4 wheeler on. And more than open enough to see the snakes

"We have rifles and they only have bow and arrows, we won't have any problems with them."-General Custer...famous last words like the above ones

I just saw a story on yahoo yesterday about a woman in Maryland that stopped to take a picture along one of the parkways heading into DC. She got out of her car, got her picture and then got bit by a copperhead. She knew it and went to the hospital. By the time she reached the hospital her foot was turning grey. They had antivenom and got her stablized and she fully recovered. However she was at a time when her insurance had lapsed. She got hit with a $55,000 hospital bill. Are you kidding me? It is cheaper to have a heart attack than to get bitten by a snake.

Just something to keep in mind as you head into the woods. I think about it everytime I step over a log or rock cropping.
