Anyone else having trouble with honey bees "swarming" all over their hummingbird feeders? Have traps out for the yellow jackets as usually it's them but couple times (right now too) have 4 feeders out and probably 30 honey bees on 3 of them. Makes it hard to swap out the cams.

No honey bees Jon, just yellow jackets here. It's gotten so bad that I have taken one of the feeders down at least temporarily hoping they will move on.

Forgot I had asked this before I think(at least did on another forum). It had been yellow jackets till today. Asked a beekeeper friend today and he said they are after the nectar (no duh) and until the goldenrod bloom they will stay at them. Figured the goldenrod should have already bloomed?
Don, get a pop bottle (I'm using 20 oz. but others use 2 qt.) and cut the top part off and invert it and goop in place. Then put sugar water in it and I use packing tape and fold over and stick it next to the feeder. They crawl down the funnel and then can't get out and drown. Usually am getting about a dozen every other day.
These pics. show just a few bees/yellow jackets around, usually there's alot more.

The trap was supposed to be for mosquitos but works on yellow jackets too. I'll be sitting in the chair and when one crawls down the funnel I'm screaming "YEAH"! You'd think it was the Steelahs scoring a TD!

Haven't had the problem Jon.  (And it's 'Stillerz'[biggrin])

I'll take it.  From where you are I'm just glad it's not 'Da Bills'![smile]

(Or the Browns, but I don't think anyone admits to that anymore!)

You need to get a bee suit and find out where the honey best nest is. Then you'll have honey all winter.
