Do you think he might be one of the culprits emptying the feeder every day?

Oh? Feeder was emptied again yesterday and only got 1 bird picture of any value. All the rest were of the red squirrel, chipmunk(s) and blue jay.
Here's another one from yesterday. Guess the mumps are spreading.

Hey Jon, this is gonna sound worse than it really is.  I was having the same problem.  Now, I, ummm, uhhh, vaseline my pole every couple days. [biggrin]  Worked great, and every once in awhile you get to see a chipmunk confident he can run right up that pole and slide right down!

Ditto on Ken wussing out.
Try putting a slinky on your...err....pole. Youtube video has it and it is funny watching the squirrel trying to get up it. I took a metal mixing bowl and drilled a hole in the center and ran it down the shepherds staff and let it rest on a hose clamp so they can't get past it. Doesn't matter though if you're withing 4'-6' of any tree...they can jump that far. Currently I have flashing around the tree above and below the cam but they seem to be dropping onto the cam and then jumping over. They've smartened up and won't go near the live trap.
Oh, last year I put aluminum flashing across the board had the feeder hanging from but they still got on it so put oil on the flashing. Neighbors said it was funny as one evening they were sitting out watching the birds on the feeder and they saw the red run down the tree onto the flashing and then zip off it into space!!

Thanks Jon!  Going to try the 'slinky' method.  Much better than 'vaselining my pole' every few days[biggrin]
