I was heading back about mile on foot.  I looked to my left and I saw a cub.  So I watched it for a few minutes.  All of the sudden I heard something to my right.  I looked to my right and a mother bear was standing up on two legs huffing.  So now I am between a mother and cub.  I slowly walked backwards and she left me alone.  I will tell you when she made those noises ai thought she was coming at me.  I fear that situation more than anything when I am out like that.

I hope to never be in that situation.  Good job for coming out unscathed!

Important question is how were you able to walk back to the truck with the mess you made in your shorts?

Seriously....What would you have done.Do you go armed or do you have the pepper spray.
I read somewhere that more people are killed by black bears then Griz.

Anybody that hunts or is in the outdoors ,needs to have a plan in place in case things do not turn out so well.

I say this because I almost lost my own life because I was not prepared for a situation.

I know for myself and especially with my little boy - when checking cams where I have baits or lures that can attract bears and wolves I simply open carry a 9mm - it isn't much but I got 10 shots of alternate lead and copperjacketed hollow pts to pump out in some sort of defense.  Actually I don't ever think I'll need it but I have the right to carry it so why chance not having it.  When I was running cutting boundaries for the forest service in wolf country in wisconsin before they allowed out of state open carry I carried a hatchet(better than nothing) and while in MI I carried a single shot 20 ga with 3inch mag buckshot on a sling(also had gameshot in case I ran into a bunch of showshoes - oppurtunistic as I was).  I don't need to be the first casualty to wolves in the U.P. since the 1940's no how.

I generally carry but it's more out of a concern for rattlesnakes than bears
