I've been using Amazon Basics 2400 mah AA rechargable batteries in both my homebrewed and commercial cameras, they've given very good service. But my latest order of those batteries were made in China rather than Japan. I've had Chinese-made 2400 mah AA rechargable batteries in the past -- they wouldn't hold a charge and I've never bought them again. Unless Amazon goes back to having their batteries made in Japan these are my last Amazon Basics.

Have you tried these 2800mah AA Amazon basics?  The seller posted a response to a question that the cells are made in Japan but produced in China.

Haven't tried them, from what I've read there's some question about where they're manufactured, Japan or China. I also understand that all the Japanese made NiMh batteries are made in the same factory, I have no idea whether the only difference is the wrapper. But, both my Imedion and original Amazon Basics were made in Japan and are giving the same service.

I wish I would have read this thread earlier. I just ordered 16 Amazon Basics 2400mah high capacity batteries thinking I was getting re-labeled Eneloop pros (Japan)  like many peopled have claimed. When they arrived the first thing I noticed that they were made in China ! I did pull 4 of them and tested them and they tested a little over 2500mah which is  over the 2400mah they are advertised at .This is unusual as usually the Chinese batteries test under the rated mah. I am going to use them in some video cams to see how long they hold their charge.

Found this article below.  It was written/posted end of November 2019.  Can only assume they would be the Chinese batteries.

Woody-How are the batteries you started the post with holding up over the last 6 months?  Still holding up around 2400mah?

So far the Chinese-made Amazons have been fine. I've been using them in my Browning commercial cameras and they've lasted as long as my Japanese-made Amazons. I'm curious about how many times they'll take a recharge and if they'll hold their charge as long as my other Amazons, Energizers and Imedions which were all made in Japan -- supposedly in the same factory.
