I'm hacking a new camera and the external [+] and [-] may be a tight fit. Never used 30 gauge wire for external power hack, usually 26 or 28.

What are your thoughts on small gauge wire for externals? Camera runs on ~3.7 volts. It is a short run out the camera to the 3AA holder. Is it a big mistake? Experiences? Thanks in advance for the input. -Paul

I've used 30 gauge for 3 of my Sony w series builds as well as my fuji jx650 build (11 wire hack lol)... no problems at all. I've had the 3 Sony builds in the field for 10 months and they all have worked flawlessly.

My Fuji J10s, Nikon L11s and Sony S40s use 30 ga wire for the externals, but since I use servos the 30ga wire is short (only about one and a half inches). Have never had a problem because of the 30ga wire, but if you had long runs of thin wire the voltage drop might be an issue.

As long as they are stranded wire you will not have any issues.

Haven't had any problems using the 30 ga. with externals...till put the batteries in backwards...then it got REAL hot. [frown]
