I'm wondering if anyone has any knowledge on the Olympus E620. I can get one for free or pretty cheap. I was wondering if there is an easy way to hack these? I was looking around online trying to find some information and stumbled across the website below. There is a cable you can buy that plugs into the USB connection on the camera, then plugs into the a smart phone. An app on the smart phone can control the shutter. So I thought, if I knew what wire did what, I could wire a USB cord into one of the homebrew control boards. Is there a way I could take a USB cord, plug the one end into the camera, cut the wires apart and test each wire to see what wires would be power, shutter, and common?

Well with the help of some terminology from Charles, I was able to find this link below that gives the pin layout of the USB.  Click the picture of the pin numbers and it will take you to the next page of what number is what.

Currently testing the battery life on this camera with the switch left in the on position and it looks like I can get this to work.  I've taken 200-300 pictures on the same battery so far and this coming Friday will be 3 weeks and battery life seems good so far.  I spoke with Jeff at TRLCam and he said use the focus wire for the power and just leave the camera in the on position.  If I want night time pictures I just have to find a hot shoe adapter for the flash.  The popup flash on the camera doesn't flash anymore.  So this looks promising.

Hoping this cord will make the job easier wiring up to a board.  Won't have to figure out what wires goes to the pin I need.
